hand) at lower margin. Ma and Pa Kettle the featured characters or stars of
ten films from 1947-1957: The Egg and I (1947); Ma and Pa
Kettle (1949); Ma and Pa Kettle Go to Town (1950); Ma and Pa
Kettle Back on the Farm (1951); Ma and Pa Kettle at the Fair (1952);
Ma and Pa Kettle on Vacation (1953); Ma and Pa Kettle at Home
(1954); Ma and Pa Kettle at Waikiki (1955); The Kettles in the
Ozarks (1956); and, The Kettles on Old MacDonald's Farm (1957).
Kilbride portrayed Pa (Franklin) Kettle in the first eight films, retiring
after making Ma and Pa Kettle at Waikiki. Main, who portrayed Ma (Phoebe)
Kettle, was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award in 1948 for
The Egg and I, which featured the Kettles as supporting characters.
Kilbride and Main also appeared together (not in their Ma and Pa Kettle roles)
in the 1948 film, Feudin', Fussin' and A-Fightin'. MARJORIE MAIN
(1890-1975) had made her film debut in 1931 in A House Divided. She would
go on to appear in a long list of films, including Naughty
Marietta (1935), Stella Dallas (1937), Romance of the
Limberlost (1938), Another Thin Man (1939), Wyoming (1940),
A Woman's Face (1941), Heaven Can Wait (1943), Meet Me in St.
Louis (1944), Mr. Imperium (1951), It's a Big Country (1951),
Rose Marie (1954) and Friendly Persuasion (1956). She was last
seen on two episodes of TV's Wagon Train in 1958. Stage and screen
actor PERCY KILBRIDE (1888-1964) played hundreds of roles on the
stage in addition to appearing on the big screen beginning in 1933 (White
Woman). His film credits include Keeper of the Flame (1942), The
Adventures of Mark Twain (1944), State Fair (1945), Welcome
Stranger (1947), Black Bart (1948) and Riding High (1950) in
addition to his Ma and Pa Kettle films.Slightly creased at blank margins. Minor
surface creases (not evident head on). Fine condition.
