Price: $320.00
MABEL BALLIN
Signed black and white photograph (5x7) of the silent film actress and wife
to director Hugo Ballin, shown in a patterned wrap and crown. Extremely
rare!
Photograph signed: "Cordially/Mabel Ballin", in black ink, B/w 5x7.
Actress Mabel Ballin (1887-1958), wife to artist and director Hugo
Ballin, originally studied art herself before being offered roles in film. The
first role she accepted was in 1917 in the short When Bobby Broke His
Arm, appearing in three more "Bobby" shorts the same year. Her most
notable roles were in Riders of the Purple Sage (1925), The
Glorious Adventure (1918), and Jane Eyre (1921). By 1925,
her popularity and film career had mostly dried up, and she retired from film,
followed shortly after by her husband. They remained married until his death in
1956. Lightly toned. Corners lightly worn. Slight scratches to image (not seen
head on). Signature in poor contrast, but legible. Otherwise, fine condition.
