MACDONALD CAREY
B/w publicity still of Carey and [Gail Russell] from the 1950 film The Lawless
Photograph signed: "Macdonald/Carey". B/w, 10x8. Publicity photograph for the 1950 drama, The Lawless, which starred Carey as Larry Wilder and co-starred Gail Russell (also pictured) as Sunny Garcia. ©1950, Paramount Pictures Corporation. Captioned at lower margin. In 1950, Carey also starred on the big screen in South Sea Sinner, Copper Canyon, Mystery Submarine, Comanche Territory and The Great Missouri Raid. Stage, screen and radio and television actor Macdonald Carey (1913-1994) made his film debut in 1942, and gave one of his most memorable performances a year later in Alfred Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt (1943). His other feature films include Wake Island (1942), Streets of Laredo (1949), The Great Gatsby (1949), John Paul Jones (1959), Tammy and the Doctor (1963) and American Gigolo (1979). Carey, who made his television debut in 1950, appeared in a number of early anthologies, starred in several TV series, miniseries (including 1977's Roots) and made-for-TV movies and made guest appearances on shows through 1987 (Murder, She Wrote). His best known television role, however, was as Dr. Tom Horton, chief of internal medicine at University Hospital, on the long-running NBC daytime soap, Days of Our Lives (1965 until his death). Carey's voice can still be heard on the soap's intro. Lightly creased at blank margins and corners, slightly soiled at upper left corner and at lower right background. Surface creased (most not evident head on), touching facial images. ½-inch tear at mid-right edge has been reinforced with tape on verso (no show through). Overall, fine condition.
