MACDONALD CAREY. TLS: "Macdonald Carey", 1p, 8¼x10¾. No place, 1985 January 16. To Norman Bernstein, Cleveland Heights, Ohio. In full: "Thanks so much for your letter. Am sending you a photo by the same mail. Please forgive my tardiness. Have written a book of poetry which has been published by Coward, McCann and Geoghegan called 'A Day In The Life.' Ask your bookseller if he has it. Thank you again for watching Days Of Our Lives. Sincerely". Carey's best known television role was as Dr. Tom Horton, Chief of Internal Medicine at University Hospital, on the long-running NBC daytime soap, Days of Our Lives (1965 until his death). Carey's voice can still be heard on the soap's intro. In 1985, Carey also made a guest appearance on the TV series, Finder of Lost Loves. Stage, screen and radio and television actor Macdonald Carey (1913-1994) made his film debut in 1942, and gave one of his most memorable performances a year later in Alfred Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt (1943). His other feature films include Wake Island (1942), Streets of Laredo (1949), The Great Gatsby (1949), John Paul Jones (1959), Tammy and the Doctor (1963) and American Gigolo (1979). Carey, who made his television debut in 1950, appeared in a number of early anthologies, starred in several TV series, miniseries (including 1977's Roots) and made-for-TV movies and made guest appearances on shows through 1987 (Murder, She Wrote). Lightly creased. Irregular upper edge. Fine condition.
