MACDONALD CAREY
Carey sings note regarding his book of poems in 1983
Typed Note signed: "Macdonald Carey", 1p, 8x9¾. No place, no date. In full: "My book of poems, 'A DAY IN THE LIFE', can be obtained by sending a check for $7.95 to Macdonald Carey, c/o Days of Our Lives, NBC-TV Hollywood, Studio #1, 1420 N. Beachwood Drive, Hollywood, CA 90028. Should you wish a personally autographed copy, I will pay for postage on the book to you." Accompanied by envelope with typed label address to Ronnie Wilson, Franklin, Massachusetts, typed return address of Macdonald Carey at NBC-TV, Hollywood, postmarked Marina del Rey, California, September 14, 1983. Stage, screen and radio and television actor Macdonald Carey (1913-1994) made his film debut in 1942, and gave one of his most memorable performances a year later in Alfred Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt (1943). His other feature films include Wake Island (1942), Streets of Laredo (1949), The Great Gatsby (1949), John Paul Jones (1959), Tammy and the Doctor (1963) and American Gigolo (1979). Carey, who made his television debut in 1950, appeared in a number of early anthologies, starred in several TV series, miniseries (including 1977's Roots) and made-for-TV movies and made guest appearances on shows through 1987 (Murder, She Wrote). His best known television role, however, was as Dr. Tom Horton, chief of internal medicine at University Hospital, on the long-running NBC daytime soap, Days of Our Lives (1965 until his death). Carey's voice can still be heard on the soap's intro. Slightly creased and soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
