Mets.
Sports card signed: "Mackey Sasser", in blue felt tip, 2½x3½.
Mackey Sasser (b.1962) played for the Giants, Pirates, Mariners and the
Mets between1987 and 1995. A catcher out of Troy University, Sasser
was selected in the 5th round of the 1984 amateur drafts. In his career,
which was spent mostly as a member of the Mets, he served as backup catcher for
Hall of Famer Gary Carter. In 1990 he became the starting catcher, and posted
big numbers, with 83 hits and a .307 batting average. A rough in-game
collision left him injured and less apt, and his hesitance at the plate could
not be reversed. He was traded to the Mariners and then back to the Pirates
where he retired in 1995. Sasser is a lifetime .267 hitter with 16 home runs and
156 RBIs. Lightly toned at edges. Fine condition.
