Combination: (1) Autograph letter signed: "Madeline Mason" in blue ink. 2p, 4¾x7½. New York, January 16, 1973. To "Dear J.L. Pruett:-" in full: "Thank you for your kind interest. I take pleasure in sending you a copy of my Xmas poem, and suggest that Who's Who in America, and the others, both national and international, will give you biographical material, if you wish it. I might also suggest that you request of the audio-visual, Curriculum Research Dep't. of the Bd. of Ed. of the City of N.Y., and of the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C. recordings of readings of mine. (April 9, 1956 is the date of the Lib. Of C. reading, when the Mason Sonnet was first introduced in a reading of my own work- the entire book-length sequence of Sonnets in a New Form was subsequently published in '58 under the title: 'At the Ninth Hour.' With my good wishes". Lightly toned. Corners rounded. Normal Mailing folds. Original envelope included. Otherwise, fine condition. (2) Signature: "Madeline Mason" in blue ink. 8½x11. Printed copy of handwritten poem, in full: "Go, Card,/Slower than thought,/Caged in your alphabet,/Silently guard/Truer message than words/Impart,/Not for the eyes to see,/Let Merry Christmas/be/Tenderly said/By the heart./Madeline Mason".Lightly toned. Corners rounded and creased. Horizontal and vertical folding creases. Ink notes (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition. Madeline Mason was an American poet. She was known for her works, Hill Fragments, Riding for Texas, and The Cage of Years, among others. She was married to artist Malcolm McKesson from 1942 until her death in 1990. McKesson was known for his writing and sketches that implied toward sado-masochism and transvestism.
