One Day Movie Contract signed: "Max Balchowsky", "Nessa Hyams", 8½x6. June 2, 1973. Hollywood, California. One Day contract for the actor's appearance in Magnum Force at the rate of $138.00 a day. MAX BALCHOWSKY, although a stunt actor in several films, is best remembered for his contribution to the California racing scene and the history of hot rods with his invention of the "Old Yeller" racecar. Competing with the high price and stylized European cars of the time, the Old Yeller's exterior was built from spare car parts and old highway signs. However, it's mechanics and engine were built by Balchowsky with specialized parts that rivaled the engineering of the more expensive cars. His work in the racing world trickled over to film as well, with Balchowsky doing the Engine set ups for "Herbie" in The Love Bug (1968) and Steve McQueen's car in Bullitt (1968). NESSA HYAMS (b. 1941), the sister of actor Peter Hyams and the granddaughter of impresario Sol Hurok, has been casting director on many films since the early 1970s, including Summer of 42, and Blazing Saddles and The Exorcist. She has directed occasionally, mostly for television, and was producer on the film The Saint of Fort Washington (1993). Some areas of this document have been censored to protect signer identity.
