Major Diethelm von Eichel-Streiber (1914-1996) was a Luftwaffe flying
ace of World War II, during which he claimed 96 victories and was awarded the
Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross; he flew with the III/JG 52, later as an
Adjutant of III/JG 77 and shot down multiple RAF Hurricanes, Russian Tupolev
bombers, and USSAF P-47 fighters. He also participated in the Spanish Civil War
as a bomber pilot, for which he was awarded the Spanish Cross in Gold with
Swords. He survived the war, after which he emigrated to the United States where
he became a successful Volkswagen distributor in Modesto, California. Ink notes
