US patriotic stamp signed by the former German officer
Envelope signed: "Buschhausen", 6½x3¾. Envelope bearing a 13-cent US "E Pluribus Unum" stamp, postmarked Washington, D.C., May 8, 1978. Friedrich-Wilhelm Buschhausen(1908-2004) was German Army major of World War II. His military honors included the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. Buschhausen fought in the campaigns in Poland, France (1940), the Balkans and Russia (1941-1942). He then served with Rommel's Afrika Korps, captured by the Allies after the conquest of Tunisia and imprisoned until 1947. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso (no show through). Otherwise, fine condition.
