British-born author Alexander Raban "Alec" Waugh (1898-1981) was the son of
publisher and literary critic Arthur Waugh (1866-1943) and brother of
novelist Evelyn Waugh (1903-1966). A veteran of WWI, Waugh published his
first novel, The Loom of Youth, in 1933, and he would publish
additional novels as well as memoirs and travel books through 1978. His
travel books include Island in the Sun (1957), and Waugh also wrote
Wines and Spirits, a "Foods of the World" series for Time/Life, in 1968
and The Best Wine Last, a memoir, in 1978. Fold creases not near
