On March 15, 1965, Alexei Leonov (b.1934), aboard Voskhod 2 with cosmonaut Pavel Belyayev (1925-1970), became the first man to walk in space. In training for a Soviet flight around the moon, cancelled after Apollo 8 accomplished the feat in December 1968, Leonov was later the commander of Soyuz 19, which docked with Apollo 18 in the Apollo-Soyuz mission of 1975.
