ANDRIAN NIKOLAYEV He signs an American cover commemorating the Apollo/Soyuz rendezvous Commemorative Envelope signed: "Nikolayev", 6½x3¾. Cover with ink stamp cachet celebrating the launch of the joint US/Soviet Apollo/Soyuz mission. Postmarked Cape Kennedy Center, Florida, July 15, 1975, 10¢ US Skylab stamp affixed. Andrian Nikolayev (1929-2004), an original Russian cosmonaut, was aboard Vostok 3 (1962) and Soyuz 9 (1970). On both flights, he set records for the longest time in space, and he made the first broadcast from space (August 1962). He survived an assassination attempt on Soviet President Leonid Brezhnev in 1969. Interestingly, he married the first woman in space, Valentina Tereshkova, in 1963; they divorced in 1980.
