Cadwallader Colden Washburn (1818-1882), born in Maine, practiced law and business in Wisconsin, serving 5 terms in the US Congress from that state (1855-1861, 1867-1871). Two of his brothers served in Congress too, one from Maine and the other from Illinois. During the Civil War he joined the 2nd Wisconsin Cavalry, participating in the siege of Vicksburg and campaigns on the Texas coast and attaining the rank of Major General. He was Governor of Wisconsin (1872-1874). Washburn was a major investor in the milling firm which became General Mills. Fine condition.
