FREDERICK GILBREATH
The Major General fills a request from a literary agent for a signed
photograph, asking in return that the agent perhaps help him develop his
manuscript based on his time in the US Army
Typed letter signed: "Sincerely - F. Gilbreath", in blue ink,
1 page, 8½x11. July 16, 1958. Austin, Texas. In part: "Dear Mr.
Thompson, Herewith is the autographed photograph which you requested in your
letter of July 9th [item not included]. Turn about is fair play. I am
interested in that branch of your activities listed as LITERARY AGENT. At the
moment I have in crude manuscript from some 700 pages of diary, narrative and
illustrations of my life in the Regular Army. The first 200 hundred pages are
largely from memory with a few quotes from a hasty WWI diary. The remainder is
based on a detailed diary in my experiences in WWII, and involve many highly
controversial matters". Major General Frederick Gilbreath (1888-1969)

Embarkation (1941-1944). After commanding in San Francisco, Gilbreath served
as Commanding General of the South Pacific Base
Command (1944-1945). For his service during World War
II, Gilbreath was awarded the Army Distinguished Service Medal. Lightly toned.
