Jacob D. Cox sends an autograph letter to Julius Strauss commenting how he was lucky to come through the civil war without any wounds.
Autograph Letter Signed: "J.D. Cox", 1p, 5½x8½. Cincinnati, 1892 October 31. To Julius Strauss, telling him he "was so fortunate as to come through my military service in the civil war without any wounds." In 1861, Cox entered the Union Army as Brigadier General of Ohio Volunteers and was commissioned Major General of Volunteers in 1862. He resigned January 1, 1866, having been elected Governor of Ohio in October 1865, and served as Governor from 1866-1868. Tape stains at edges. Horizontal fold touches signature. Lower right corner missing.
