Colonel in the Quartermaster Department and Brevet Major General, 1p, 7¾x9¾.
Washington, D.C., 1866 June 13. On Quartermaster General's Office
letterhead to Messers Riggs & Co., Washington, D.C. Documentary letter
approving claims for reimbursement for payments to four persons employed as
teamsters, a laborer and a clerk, referring other requests to other divisions of
the Quartermaster's Office, and disapproving one request because "No evidence
can be found in this office showing that the claimant was employed, or has
arrears due for services as therein stated." James Jackson Dana, a Union
Army veteran of the battles of Chancellorsville and Gettysburg, remained
in military service in the Quartermaster's department after the war. Lightly
creased and soiled. Faint pencil erasure in blank area to left of signature.
