MAJOR GENERAL K.W. COLLINS
Extremely rare letter from the Major General, complying to a request for an autographed photo (not included)
Typed letter signed: "K.W. Collins", in black ink, 8x10½. December 19, 1967. Fort Dix, New Jersey. In part: "Dear Mr. Alford: Thank you for your letter of 27 November. As you requested, I am inclosing an autographed photograph, a biographical sketch, and a booklet containing information about Fort Dix [items not included]. I hope you will be able to add this material to your collection and that it will be of interest to your children". Kenneth Wilson Collins, often abbreviated to K.W. Collins (1916-1994), was an officer in the United States Army graduating from West Point in 1939. He served in both infantry and air corps during his service, and saw battle in World War II, earning a Silver Star, Legion of Merit, and Bronze Star. After the war, he served as Commanding General of Fort Dix, New Jersey between 1967 and 1969, training soldiers that eventually would be sent off to fight in Vietnam. His name can be found credited on several training manuals for Fort Dix, helping to solidify the importance he had in shaping soldiers. Upon his retirement, Collins received a Distinguished Service Medal. Toned, esp. towards bottom margin. Corners slightly worn. Stains on verso (does not show through). Fine condition.
