Autograph note signed: "Walter Ingraham/from his friend/Nath. P Banks/Council Chamber Jan: 5 1860" as Governor of Massachusetts, 5x2½, attached to sheet of same size. Nathaniel P. Banks received a political appointment as Major General of Volunteers in 1861. With no military training, he proved to be an inept leader on the battlefield, and was nicknamed "Commissary Banks" by the Confederates as a result of his tremendous loss of supplies during the campaign in the Shenandoah Valley. Lightly creased, slightly soiled. Ink blot at "from" ,"N" , "th" and "Nath". Otherwise, fine condition.
