In full: "The Cmg General desires that you will pay such officers as may present themselves to you and use another 2 payments without making such applications to this Head Quarters." Meade was the Commanding General. SETH WILLIAMS was Adjutant General of the Army of the Potomac while it was commanded by Generals McClellan, Burnside, Hooker and Meade. He won the brevet of Colonel Conduct at Gettysburg. He was made Major General in the U.S. Army on March 13, 1865 for gallant and meritorious service throughout the war. His health impaired by his continued and arduous duties during the war, General Williams died in Boston on March 23, 1866, a day after his 44th birthday.
