SOYUZ 31: BYKOVSKY and JAHN
Original Soviet cosmonaut and first German in space.
Philatelic Envelope signed: "V. Bykovsky" in Russian and "S. Jähn", 6¼x4½. Space cover bearing Soviet "Interkosmos" space stamp, postmarked Moscow, August 31, 1978, the day Soyuz 31 landed. Valery Bykovsky was one of the original Soviet astronauts, orbiting the Earth 81 times aboard Vostok 5, June 14-19, 1963. He returned to space on September 15, 1976 with Vladimir Aksenov (Soyuz 22, eight days), taking Earth-resources photographs. Sigmund Jähn was the first East German in space. Soyuz 31 transported Bykovsky and Jähn to the Salyut 6 space station. Fine condition.
