Picture Post Card signed: "Sigmund/Jähn". Color, 4x6. Shown with Soviet cosmonaut Valery Bykovsky, commander of Soyuz 31. Sigmund Jähn (b. 1937), an East German Air Force pilot and research scientist, became the first German in space, traveling to the Soviet space station Salyut 6 on a 7-day mission (August - September, 1978) aboard two Soyuz spacecraft. For this mission, the cosmonaut was honored as a Hero of the Soviet Union. After German reunification, Jähn was a freelance consultant to the German Aerospace Center, and then the European Space Agency (1993-2002). Slightly worn at edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
