signs this typed letter in which he informs Master Lucius Shepard that General Bradley
had granted his request
Typed Letter Signed: “Willis S. Matthews” in blue ink. 7x8. One Page. Date: May 13, 1952.
Place: Washington, District of Columbia. Written on official letterhead of the U.S.
Department of Defense. In full: “Dear Lucius: General Bradley received your letter and was
very pleased to sign the inclosed {sic} slip for your autograph collection, It bears a reproduction of
the flag designed for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and is forwarded with the General's
good wishes. Sincerely, Willis S. Matthews. Brigadier General, USA. Executive to General
Bradley. Master Lucius Shepard, 119 North Ridgewood Ave. Daytona Beach, Florida”.Major
General Willis S. Matthews was part of the Department of the Army, General Orders No.
2. The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9,
1918, presented the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Major General Matthews for his
exceptionally, meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the
Government of the United States, during the period of April 1952 to December 1962.
Lightly toned, worn and soiled. Horizontal fold. Otherwise, fine condition.
