Typed Letter signed: "Winant Sidle", 1 page, 8x10½. Washington, D.C. 1965 February 25. On JCS letterhead to Hugo Koch, New York, N. Y. In full: "In response to your request, we are pleased to return your TIME cover and card with General Wheeler's autograph. [Items not included.] Sincerely". Winant Sidle (1916-2005) joined the Pennsylvania Army National Guard in 1940, with World War II service including the Battle of Anzio (1944). Joining the regular army, Sidle served in Korea. When he signed this letter, he was a colonel on the staff of General Earle Wheeler, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Sidle later served as the Army's Chief of Information, first in Saigon (1967-1969) and then for the entire branch (1969-1973). Rising to the rank of major general, Sidle was Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense before his 1974 retirement. Fine condition.
