MAKE THE CONNECTION (TV GAME SHOW): GLORIA DeHAVEN, BETTY WHITE, EDDIE BRACKEN and GENE KLAVAN Four regular panelists inscribe this photo of themselves on the set Inscribed Photograph Signed: "To Al,/ My best/ always/ Betty White", "To Albert/ Kindest regards/ Gloria DeHaven", "To Al,/ Gene/ Klavan" and "Eddie Bracken". B/w, 8x10 overall, image 7x7½ (one surface). A fifth, unidentified, signer, "Janie" is also present. Make the Connection was a TV game show which ran for 13 episodes in 1955, hosted for six episodes by Jim McKay and for 7 by Gene Rayburn. The four identified signers here were regular panelists on the program. GLORIA DeHAVEN (1925-2016) was a band vocalist in many film musicals, such as Best Foot Forward (1943) and Summer Holiday (1948). In the 1950s, she was paired with such stars as William Powell and Red Skelton. When the popularity of the musicals waned, DeHaven remained active as a nightclub and summer stock performer and made TV guest appearances. She returned to film opposite Walter Matthau in Out To Sea (1997). BETTY WHITE (b.1922) is best known for her Emmy Award-winning role as grief counselor Rose Nylund, which she played on four different TV sitcoms: The Golden Girls (1985-1992), Golden Palace (1992-1993), Nurses (1991; guest appearance) and Empty Nest (1989, 1991, 1992; guest appearances). White was also a regular on The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1973-1977), playing Sue Ann Nivens, a regular panelist on another game show Password (1961-1975), on which she met her husband, host Allen Ludden, and had three shows of her own: The Betty White Show (1957-1958 and 1977) and The Pet Set (1971). The popular actress has appeared in several feature films, a number of TV movies and a long list of TV series and game shows. A child performer in vaudeville, EDDIE BRACKEN (1915-2002) moved on to Broadway and then movies, typecast in comic roles as a bewildered bungler. Bracken, whose film career spanned more than half a century (1938-1994), had his peak year in 1944, when he starred in Hail the Conquering Hero and The Miracle of Morgan's Creek. GENE KLAVAN (1924-2004) was a morning disc jockey with a comic flair who dominated the morning air waves in New York City at WNEW for 25 years (1952-1977). An author and newspaper columnist too, he later did commentaries for American Movie Classics and other TV networks. He is the father of successful writers Andrew and Laurence Klavan. Lightly creased at corners. Otherwise, fine condition.
