Typed Letter Signed: “M. Trucco”, and “Sergio Huneeus” twice. 8½x13. One
page. Dated February 17, 1937. Letterhead from the Chilean Embassy in
Washington D.C. Newspaper clipping adhered to letter. In Full: “In response to
your letter of the 21th, of January I am sending you, herewith, the autographs of
the Ambassador and of the staff of this Embassy”. Manuel Trucco (1875-1954)
was a civil servant who filled a few different positions during his lengthy
career. He taught mathematics at the Universidad de Chile for years, later
resigning to become General Director of Railroads. Trucco was briefly Minister
of the Interior and then Vice President of Chile. From 1932 to 1938, Trucco
was the ambassador to the United States. Toned. Folding creases. Water stains
throughout. Two dime-sized holes in paper caused by water damage.
One-inch-long tear in center of page does not impact message. Three unidentified
signers.
