MARC CHAGALL. ALS: "Marc Chagall", 1p, 5¼x7¾. St. Paul de Vence, France, no date. To an unknown gentlemen. In French, not translated. The artist offers some "quite modest reflections" on an interesting problem raised by the recipient. Chagall settled in St. Paul de Vence in 1950. He died there on March 28, 1985 and is interred in the Saint Paul Town Cemetery. Russian-born French artist Marc Chagall (1887-1985) created his own style with subjects drawn from Russian village life, Jewish folklore and Hassidic mysticism. In addition to being a prolific painter, Chagall worked in stained glass, mosaic, clay, stone and tapestry. Lightly creased with folds, horizontal fold touches the descender of the "g" and the flourish of the second "l" in Chagall. Nicked at lower left blank edge. Slightly soiled at blank areas. Perforated upper edge. Overall, fine condition.
