MARC CHAGALL - BOOK PHOTOGRAPH SIGNED - HFSID 145381
Price: $2,000.00
MARC CHAGALL. Book Photograph signed: "Marc Chagall" in blue crayon at lower
margin. B/w, 6x8 overall, image 6x6¾ (one surface). Russian-born French artist Marc Chagall
(1887-1985), known for his unique work that reflects his profound Jewish background, signed
this book page that depicts him working on sketches that would become his personal
paneled screen in his Paris Studio (circa 1966). Chagall worked in brilliant colors and
traditionally used ethereal figures floating above buildings and foreground subjects. He produced
many such mural collages in theater sets and even on the ceiling of the Paris Opera, which he
completed in 1964. The Paris Opera ceiling is a masterpiece of modern art, yet it blends
magnificently with the ornate, gilded structure created by Charles Garnier. Chagall enjoyed the
theater and worked on set designs, costumes and curtains for The Magic Fluteat the New
York Metropolitan Opera in 1966. Other theater productions in which Chagall was involved
included Firebird(1945) and Daphnis and Chloe(1958). Slightly soiled at lower margin. Fine
condition. Framed to an overall size of 17x26.
