MARC LAWRENCE
Signed photograph shown in his role from The Ox-Bow Incident.
Dated in 1984, inscribed to a fan.
Inscribed photograph signed: "To Frank/Abernatty/always with/my
good/wishes/Marc Lawrence/1984 [drawn arrow point towards his image]
1941", in black ink. B/w 8x10 with sepia hue.Although Lawrence dates
the picture from 1941, it is actually from 1943, showing him as rancher and
lynch mob member Jeff Farnley in the memorable 1943 film, The Ox-Bow
Incident. Actor Marc Lawrence (1910-2005) entered films in 1933
and played more than 100 character parts. Swarthy and pock-marked, he
specialized in portraying sinister Mafia hoods, despite a far greater range.
When called before the House Un-American Activities Committee, Lawrence admitted
he had once been a member of the Communist Party. He was blacklisted and left
for Europe, where he continued to make films. When he returned to America, he
resumed his position as a familiar and talented purveyor of gangland types. A
writer and director as well, Lawrence remained active into his nineties. Bowed.
Creased. Toned at edges and corners. Corners and edges worn. Minor surface
creases. Black mark at top left corner. Otherwise, fine condition.
