MARCEL MARCEAU
Shown as his sad sack character, Bip, in this 7x5 black and white
photograph.
Inscribed Photograph signed: "To
Robert/Massa/thoughtful/remembrance/from/Bip [flower]/Marcel/Marceau/94",
B/w 7x5. Marceau's famous sad sack character, Bip, who was modeled on Charlie
Chaplin's Little Tramp, was widely recognized by the single red flower sprouting
from his hat. The career of French mime Marcel Marceau (1923-2007)
was delayed by WWII, during which he served in the French Resistance. After the
war, Marceau gained worldwide popularity as a mime, and he greatly influenced
the modern art of pantomime. Marceau's famous sad sack character, Bip,
was widely recognized by the single red flower sprouting from his hat.
Ironically, Marceau had the only spoken lines in Mel Brooks' Silent
Movie (1976). Fine condition.
