MARGARET BOTTOME
The founder and President of the International Order of the King's Daughters
and Sons signs her name in black ink
Signature: "Margaret Bottome" in black ink. 3¾x2½ card. Margaret
Bottome (1827-1906) was an American columnist and religious organizer,
best known as the founder of the Christian spiritual development and
organization known as the International Order of the King's Daughters and
Sons. Married to Revered Frank Bottome, she would give informal talks
regarding the Bible, eventually organizing herself and nine other women into a
permanent study group call the King's Daughters which grew exponentially
throughout the next twenty years. She wrote for the order's magazine Silver
Cross as well as a regular column for Ladies' Home Journal. Her
published works included Our Lord's Seven Questions After Easter
(1889), Crumbs from the King's Table (1894), A Sunshine
Trip: Glimpses of the Orient (1897) and Death and Life
(1897). Toned. Soiled throughout. Light surface creases. Newspaper article
