MARGARET CHASE SMITH
A friendly personal letter from 1992.
Typed Letter signed: "Margaret Chase Smith", 1p, 7¼x7½.
Skowhegan, Maine., 1992 April 20. On personal letterhead to Judith
Montgomery. In full: "It is a privilege to write you and your friends
and to know that I will be thinking of your from time to time, wishing that I
could drop in, talk with you, and help in some way to keep you all busy and
occupied. While I do not think this is necessary, from your note, it might help.
The enclosed [enclosure not included] may be of interest to you and goes
with my good wishes. Sincerely". Smith (1897-1995) was Maine's U.S.

became the first woman nominated at a major party's convention). A visiting
professor for the Woodrow Wilson National Scholarship Foundation (1973-1976),
Smith was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1989. Lightly
soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
