MARGARET BELLASIS (FRANCESCA MARTON)
Author of Attic in Area signs a Christmas card in 1968. Also signed with her penname, Francesca Marton. Extremely rare!
Typed letter signed: "Margaret Bellasi / 'Francesca Marton'", in black ink, 1 page, 5¼x7. Kent, England, No date. To "Dear Mr. Weiner" in full: "I've been seeking the chance, these last two days, to send a coherent line, with a definite suggestion for a visit. What do you say to Sunday, 27th? It would give time for one or two interest- ing people, now taking late holidays, to be I would suggest that you and Mrs. Weiner get here for tea, soon after 4; and that you stay on for a modest drink with one or two droppers-in about 6. It would be very nice, too, if Mr. Hall (was that the name of my kind lift-giver? My memory for names is highly un- reliable; but we had such a interesting talk about the RAF!) could bring his wife, and run you all over. Not a great party, but one or two congenial souls. Perhaps Michael and Mollie Hardwick, if they can be pried away from their toil! I so much enjoyed Tuesday (wen with the distraction of the plumber - all ended happily!). Indeed, I was so much interested that I rushed off without thinking of my fee - whatever modest sum might be. We, of the Deal History Society have a very modest standard fee (3 guineas), which upon principle, we make all our speakers accept! I daresay your arrangement is much the same. Hoping to see you over here; Sincerely", Margaret Bellasis, also known as Francesca Marton, is a British writer and historian, author of Honourable Company (1952). The book traces the history of British delegates of the East India Company back to the earliest establishers of the trade monopolies in Colonial India. She is also the author of Mr. Betsy: Widowed and Wed, Attic and Area and Virgil and Peace Aims (1945). Normal mailing folds. Corners creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
