MARGARET LEIGHTON
Vintage photo in evening gown and pearl necklace, inscribed to collector Saul
Goodman
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Saul/Best Wishes/Margaret Leighton".
B/w, 8x10. Collector's ink stamp on verso dates signature: May 18, 1955.
English actress Margaret Leighton (1922-1976) rose to prominence in the
late '40s; over the next decade she became a highly respected actress for her
work in both London and Broadway, typically portraying fragile, neurotic women.
For her performances in the Broadway plays Separate Tables (1956) and
The Night of the Iguana (1962) she won Tony Awards. Onscreen from the
late '40s, she appeared in numerous films over nearly three decades. For her
work in The Go-Between (1971) she received a Best Supporting Actress
Oscar nomination. Saul Goodman (1919-2003), a New York business man
by day, pursued his love of film and theatre in the evening, making friends with
many celebrities. While other autograph seekers offered album leaves, Goodman
presented stars with snazzy photographs, a rarity then, to sign in fountain pen.
A bit of light ink adhesion to signature and inscription. Otherwise, fine
condition.
