MARGARET RITCHIE and HANS KELLER Peach-colored album leaf signed by the two musicians Signatures: “Margaret Ritchie” on front and “Hans Keller” on verso, both in blue felt tip, 5¾x4. MARGARET RITCHIE (1903-1969) was a British operatic soprano. She is credited with creating notable roles in two of Benjamin Britten's operas: Lucia in The Rape of Lucretia (1946) and Miss Wordsworth in Albert Herring (1947). A considerable number of recordings have been made of her performances, including two records of solo recitals in which she was accompanied by George Malcolm. HANS KELLER (1919-1985) was a musician and writer well-respected in the classical music world for his contributions to the fields of music criticism and musicology. His method of “wordless functional analysis” is unique in that it relies on musical sound exclusively, whereas other methods employ words or diagrams during the analytic process. In addition to his critical innovations, Keller championed the works of Benjamin Britten and Arnold Schoenberg, and provided interesting new insights on the works of composers Haydn, Mozart, Mendelssohn, and Beethoven. Left edge irregular from being torn from album. Otherwise, fine condition.
