STAGE DIRECTORS: MARGARITA WALLMAN, JOSIF TOUMANOV, JOSÉ TAMAYO and OSCAR ARAIZ
Signing by their images on a magazine page with Spanish captions
Magazine Photograph signed: "Josif Toumanov" [signing in Cyrillic script], "Margarita Wallman", "José Tamayo" and on verso "Oscar Araiz", 2 pages (front and verso), 6¾x9½. Individual images are captioned in Spanish, with an overall French title: "Regisseurs" [Stage Managers]. Austrian-born ballerina MARGARITA WALLMAN (1904-1992) was soloist with the Bavarian State Opera when she plunged through an accidentally opened trap door, breaking her hip. Unable to dance herself, she opened a dance school, and then established herself as a renowned music director and choreographer, first at Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires and then at Milan's La Scala. JOSIF TOUMANOV is the Russian name of Georgian-born Iosif Tumanishvili, longtime artistic director of Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre. He directed the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow. His son, Mikhail Tumanishvili (b. 1935), is a well-known actor and director of Russian films. Influential Spanish theatre director and impresario JOSÉ TAMAYO (1920-2003) proved adept at getting plays by Bertolt Brecht, Arthur Miller and Jean Anouilh past the censors of the Franco dictatorship. He also directed zarzuelas, a popular form of Spanish musical theatre. Argentine actor and stage director OSCAR ARAIZ choreographed familiar ballets with the Joffrey Ballet and the National Ballet of Canada, but was also famous for promoting the tango on stage, films and recordings. Lightly worn. Lightly creased. Minor nicks and tears at edges. Lightly toned at edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
