MARGUERITE CHURCHILL

Vintage photo promoting her appearance in Dracula's Daughter, inscribed in person to collector Saul Goodman

Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Saul,/Sincerely,/Marguerite Churchill". B/w, 8x10. Printed text on verso states that Churchill "plays the role of Janet in Universal's strange vampire drama, 'Dracula's Daughter.'" Collector's ink stamp on verso dates signature: June 10, 1936. Marguerite Churchill (1910-2000) appeared on the Broadway stage (Dinner at Eight) and feature films of the 1930s (The Valiant, Forgotten Commandments, Dracula's Daughter). She co-starred with John Wayne in The Big Trail (1930) and with future husband George O'Brien in Riders of the Purple Sage (1931). She was married to O'Brien from 1933 to 1948, after which she appeared in one more movie: The Bunco Squad (1950). She was the mother of Edgar-winning author Darcy O'Brien, and of New York Philharmonic bassist Orin O'Brien. Saul Goodman (1919-2003), a New York business man by day, pursued his love of film and theatre in the evening, making friends with many celebrities. While other autograph seekers offered album leaves, Goodman presented stars with snazzy photographs, a rarity then, to sign in fountain pen. Two light surface marks. Light toning at right edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
