Australian Marguerite Dale (1883-1963) was a member of the Lyceum Club's Literary
Circle. She was part of the Hume family, which counts among its members the famed
explorer of the Australian states of New South Wales and Victoria, Hamilton Hume.
Marguerite was a prominent Australian playwright, politician, and social reformer. She
fought for women's rights and funded many of her activities by writing plays. Her fictional
theatrical publications were quite popular in Australia, and she eventually took one of her
works, The Mainstay, to London in 1923. In 1922, she was named a delegate to the
League of Nations and earned the right to speak in front of the international
organization's members. Gently bowed. Lightly toned. Rippling from adhesion to piece of
paper. Corners of letter clipped. Otherwise, fine condition.
