MARIA MONTEZ The actress shown wearing a white fur shawl, inscribed to Radio/TV host George Sanders Inscribed Photograph Signed: "Best Love George -/Maria Montez". B/w, 7½x9½. ©1944, Universal Pictures Co., Inc. Exotic beauty Maria Montez (1912-1951), born Maria Africa Antonia Gracia Vidal de Santo Silas in the Dominican Republic, who would make 27 movies, began her film career in 1941 with a bit part in Universal's The Invisible Woman. The following year, the actress who would come to be called "The Caribbean Cyclone" and "The Queen of Technicolor" would pair for the first time with Jon Hall in Arabian Nights. The two proved so popular that they co-starred in White Savage (1943), Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, Cobra Woman and Gypsy Wildcat (all 1944, the year of this photograph) and Sudan (1945). When her Hollywood career began to fade, Montez moved to Europe with her actor husband, Jean-Pierre Aumont. There, she made a handful of French and Italian adventure films before her death in 1951 at the age of 34. George R. Sanders, originally a disc jockey, became a prominent radio/TV interview host, first in Los Angeles and later in Portland. Tack holes and stain at lower right blank corner, 1-inch vertical tear in lower center, at her hands. Ink note on verso (no show through). Otherwise, fine condition.
