Magazine advertisement signed "Maria Schell" in blue ink. B/w, 8x9¾ overall, 7½x9½ image, one surface. The Last Bridge, also known as Die Letzte Brücke, was a German-language film set in World War II. Schell won a Special Mention at the 1954 Cannes Film Festvial for her performance as a doctor helping Yugoslavian partisans in The Last Bridge. Schell (1926-2005, born Margarete Schell in Vienna, Austria) was the older sister of actor Maximilian Schell, who directed a film dedicated to her (My Sister Maria, 2002). Maria Schell debuted in Angel with a Trumpet (1948). Among her other well-known English language films were The Hanging Tree (1959) and The Brothers Karamazov (1960). Schell retired in 1963, but returned to the screen for cameo appearances, as in Superman: the Movie (as a Kryptonian judge, 1978) and Inside the Third Reich (as Albert Speer's mother, 1982). Lightly toned, stained, creased and bowed, otherwise in fine condition.
