Actress Maria Schell (1926-2005) was born in Preitenegg, Carinthia. The
daughter of a Swiss author and an Austrian actress, she was the older sister of
actor Maximilian Schell. At the 1956 Venice Film Festival she was awarded the
Volpi Cup for Best Actress for her role in Gervaise (1956). She
starred in several films beginning in the early 1950's including Dr.
Holl (1951), So Little Time (1952), The Heart of the Matter
(1953), Rose Bernd (1956), The Brothers Karamazov (1958), The
Hanging Tree (1959) Cimarron (1960) La Provocation (1970) and
The Twist (1976). She also played Kryptonian scientist Vond-Ah in the
1978 film Superman. Fine condition.
