MARIE BELL
The French actress who directed the Theatre du Gymnase in Paris, France,
signed this black and white photograph that features a headshot of her
Photograph Signed: “Marie Bell” in ink. 8x10. Actual size 7½x9 with a white
border (one surface). B/w. Marie Bell (1900-1985) appeared in dozens of
theater, film, and television roles over the years. These films include Le grand
jeu (1934), Sandra (1965), and Phedre (1968). In 1962, she became the
director of the Theatre du Gymnase, a position she served in until her death.
Today, the theater bears her name in honor of the accomplished actress. She
was a member of the French resistance during WWII, helping to operate the
Front National du theatre while France was occupied by Germany. Bowed.
