Inscribed 8x10 photo of the notorious glamour queen
Photograph inscribed and signed: "Regards/John/Marie McDonald". B/w,
8x10 overall, image 7¼x9 (one surface). Marie McDonald (1923-1965) was a model
and beauty pageant contestant nicknamed "the Body." She was a popular
pin-up during World War II, and sang with several big bands, including
Tommy Dorsey's, before beginning a film career. After several secondary roles,
she co-starred with Gene Kelly in Living in a Big Way (1947).
McDonald was married seven times (including twice to Harry Karl - who would
later marry and bankrupt Debbie Reynolds), and had an affair with mobster
Bugsy Siegel. She made headlines by faking her own kidnapping in 1957.
Substance abuse problems damaged her career, and she died at age 42 of an
accidental or deliberate drug overdose. Her last husband committed suicide the
following year; her three children were raised by Karl and Reynolds. Slightly
creased at corners. Adequate contrast. Otherwise, fine
condition.
