MARIE WILSON
Black and white publicity photograph of Marie Wilson sitting at a prop table.
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Albert/Lovingly/Marie/Wilson". B/w, 8x10 overall, image 7x8¾ (one surface). Comic actress Marie Wilson (1916-1972), born Katherine Elizabeth Wilson, was best known for playing Irma Peterson in the radio (1947), film (1949) and television (1952-1954) versions of My Friend Irma (1949) and its 1950 film sequel, My Friend Irma Goes West. A former Broadway dancer, Wilson made her film debut in the 1934 Laurel & Hardy film, Babes in Toyland, before signing a contract with Warner Bros. and appearing as the scatterbrained "dumb blonde" in scores of comedies, including Satan Met a Lady (1936) and Boy Meets Girl (1938). Her other films include China Clipper (1936), She's In the Army (1942), Shine On Harvest Moon (1944), A Girl in Every Port (1952) and Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation (1962). In 1944, Wilson was hired to perform a comedy striptease in Ken Murray's Hollywood stage revue, Blackouts. She performed her act in 2,332 performances over the next five years, and Wilson would return to the stage when her film career waned. She also appeared in nightclubs and made guest appearances on a number of TV series, including Where's Huddles (1970, voice) and Love, American Style (1972). Lightly rippled, else fine condition.
