MARIE WINDSOR
The actress pens a note apologizing for not signing photographs
Autograph Note Signed: "M.W." at lower margin of Typed Letter signed: "Bernadette Cross", 1p, 8½x11. In full: "Sorry I forgot to sign the photos in the first place." The typed letter, on letterhead of The American Museum of Historical Documents, Las Vegas, Nevada, is dated 21 November 1984 and relates to the return of Windsor's photographs for her signature. To the left of her autograph note, the actress has affixed a sticker headed "A Quicky Reply". In the year this letter is dated, Windsor was a guest star on two television series, Scarecrow and Mrs. King and Simon & Simon. Although actress Marie Windsor (1919-2000), born Emily Marie Bertelsen, said her favorite films were Hellfire (1949), The Narrow Margin (1952) and The Killing (1956), the actress and expert horsewoman is best known for her roles in "B" Westerns in the 1940s. Her long list of feature films includes Song of the Thin Man (1947, her first featured role), The Fighting Kentuckian (1949), The Eddie Cantor Story (1953), Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy (1955), Cahill U.S. Marshall (1973), and Freaky Friday (1976). Windsor also appeared in a long list of TV series from 1952 (The Unexpected) to 1991 (Murder, She Wrote), making repeat guest starring visits to such shows as Hawaiian Eye, Perry Mason, Adam-12, and Simon & Simon. Windsor, who served as a Director of the Screen Actors Guild for 25 years, died the day before her 81st birthday. Letter is slightly creased with folds, light horizontal fold underlines Cross' signature. Otherwise, fine condition.
