Program for the Allentown Community concert Association's 18th Annual Conert Season of World Famous Artists, signed by Metropolitan Opera Ballet ballerina Marina Svetlova with Alexis Dolinoff, Elena Imaz and Theodor Haig
Program signed "Marina Svetlova", "Alexis Dolinoff", "Theodor Haig" and "Elena Imaz", allin pencil. With pencil marks and notations in unknown hand. B/w, 4 pages, 6¼x9¼, 1 sheet folded, front and verso. Titled: "Allentown/Community/Concert Association/presents/The Eighteenth Annual Concert Season/OF/WORLD FAMOUS ARTISTS". Part of the Community Concert Association concerts from Columbia Concerts, Inc. with Svetlova billed as "Prima Ballerina, Metropolitan Opera Association". Accompanied by Alexis Dolinoff, "Leading Male Dancer, Metropolitan Opera Association"; Theodor Haig, Concert Pianist; and Elena Imaz's "Dances of Spain". According to the front cover, all these artists appeared in an Oct. 1, 1945 appearance. Svetlova (1922-2009, born in Paris, France) was a ballerina and soloist with the Original Ballet Russe (1939-1941), the Metropolitan Opera Ballet (1943-50) and the New York City Opera (1951-2).Her greatest impact as a dancer, though, may be as a teacher. She was professor of ballet at Indiana University in Bloomington and chairwoman of the ballet department there from 1969 to 1992 and a teacher at the Southern Vermont Art Center in Manchester, Vermont from 1965 and 1995, teaching hundreds of students ballet and dance. Lightly toned and soiled. Tape residue at top and bottom edges of back cover with tear at top edge. Ink transference inside program. Otherwise in fine condition.
