driver MARIO ANDRETTI (born in Montana, Italy in 1940) was a four-time
USAC-CART national champion (1965-1966, 1969 and 1984). The only driver
to win the Daytona 500 (1967), the Indy 500 (1969) and the Formula
One world title (1978), Andretti was also the only driver to race in four
decades (1960s-1990s) and he was the oldest Champ Car driver to win a
race (Phoenix, 1993 -- at 53 years and 34 days old). When he retired in
1994, Andretti ranked first in poles (67) and starts (407) and second in wins
(52) on the all-time Championship Auto Racing Teams list.A legend in his own time, Andretti was
inducted into the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame and the
Motorsports Hall of Fame of America while still racing. Race car
driver AL UNSER was three-time USAC-CART national champion (1970, 1983, and
1985) and four-time winner of the Indy 500 (1970-71, 1978, 1987, one time
more than brother Bobby). He retired in 1994. Unser is ranked 4th on
the all-time CART list with 39 wins. He is the younger brother of Bobby and
the father of Al Jr. In his 17-year Indy car career, RICK MEARS won the
Indianapolis 500 four times - '79, '84, '88 and '91, won 40 poles (including
a record 16 in 500-mile races and a record six at the Indianapolis 500), posted
29 victories and set a closed course Indy car speed record of 233.934 mph at the
Michigan International Speedway in 1986. He was recognized in 1990 as the
Associated Press "Driver of the Decade" for his 20 wins in the 1980's. In 1992,
Mears was named one of ten "Champions for Life" by the Driver of The Year
Award's panel - the youngest driver of this prestigious group. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso (no show
