First day cover signed: "Mario Puzo", "Robert Penn Warren", "John Hersey", "Kurt Vonnegut", "John Toland", "Wm. F. Buckley", "Irving Wallace" and "Allen Ginsberg", 6½x3¾. FDC Higher education and the 100th anniversary of the Land Grant College Act of 1862, Washington, D.C., Nov. 14, 1962, 4¢ green-and-white Higher Education stamp affixed, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Puzo, who died in 1999, wrote The Godfather. Warren won two Pulitzer Prizes for Poetry and one for All the King's Men. Hersey won a Pulitzer for his first novel, A Bell for Adano. Vonnegut's (1922-2007) novels include Slaughterhouse-Five. Toland won a Pulitzer for The Rising Sun. Buckley (1925-2008) founded the weekly magazine National Review and hosted television's Firing Line. Wallace's works include The Chapman Report and The Prize. Ginsberg was a poet of the 1950's beat generation and spokesman for the 1960's counterculture; his poems include Howl. Tack head-size, light stain at lower right blank margin. Otherwise, fine condition.
