Autograph sentiment on a 6x4 slip, signed and dated by her in 1927, during her 4-year tenure with the Metropolitan Opera
Autograph Sentiment signed: "Sincerely,/Marion Talley/April 1927", 5¾x2¾ piece of paper. Coloratura soprano Marion Talley (1906-1983) made her operatic debut with New York's Metropolitan in Rigoletto (1926). In the audience were many residents of her home town, Nevada, Missouri, who had traveled east by rail to hear her. At age 19, Talley was the youngest principal female performer in the Met's history. After performing on that stage for four seasons, Talley announced her desire to retire to the farm she owned in Kansas, but drove her Stutz Bearcat to California instead. There she starred in one film, the musical Follow Your Heart (1936). After a divorce and bitter child custody battle, she withdrew from the public eye. Some of her voice recordings have been reissued on the album The Vocal Artistry of Marion Talley. Irregular edges. Mounting remnants on verso (light show-through, not near signature). Otherwise, fine condition.
