MARJORIE MAIN
She signs a typed letter mentioning her work in the new films A Woman's Face and The Trial of Mary Dugan.
Typed Letter signed: "Marjorie Main", 1 page, 5¼x7¼. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, Culver City, California, circa 1941. On personal letterhead to "Dear Friend", in full: "Please let me acknowledge your recent letter and thank you for your interest in my work. I am now quite busy in 'A Woman's Face' which stars Joan Crawford, and just finished a role in 'The Trial of Mary Dugan,' with Robert Young and Laraine Day. Hope you will like them. Sincerely". Marjorie Main (1890-1975) performed in vaudeville and on Broadway before her film debut in 1931. Often cast as a salty, abrasive woman, she found a niche opposite Percy Killbride in ten Ma and Pa Kettle movies between 1947 and 1957. She earned Best Supporting Actress nominations for The Egg and I (Academy of Motion Pictures, 1947, her first "Ma Kettle" role) and Friendly Persuasion (Hollywood Foreign Press Association, 1956). Some might be surprised that Main mentions A Woman's Face and The Trial of Mary Dugan in this letter when she had much more prominent roles in other films in 1941, especially Barnacle Bill and The Bugle Sounds.
